I got to see Maleficent this week! At first I was nervous, because it looked scary. But my mom suggested I try it out, so I can write about it and let other kids know what it’s really like! So here is my review.
I liked how, at the beginning, we saw Maleficent being good and not evil. But then it kind of turned a little bit romantic, when she met a human boy Stefan and they started being friends. My favorite part was the fairy creatures and the beginning of the movie, because they were so pretty and magical, it made me wish that place was real! The special effects were amazing, especially the fairies and Maleficent’s flying.
I didn’t like how Maleficent had a weakness, because that doesn’t seem fair. I didn’t like that iron hurt her so bad. I think it was selfishness and greed that led Stefan to betray her, because he loved her before, but wanting more power changed him. My mom says that seeking power can corrupt people, even against their friends, and this guy was a good example of that. It even changed his ability to love those around him!
As far as kids go, I think the fighting scene towards the end was really violent and kind of scary. I was really scared for Maleficent, and all the soldiers were freaky. I’d say anyone under 7 or 8 years old would probably be too scared of these parts.
I liked how Maleficent and Aurora became friends, and I thought it was kind of funny Aurora thought Maleficent was her fairy godmother! And I can tell that Maleficent starts to feel love towards Aurora, and it starts to give her hope back that the human and fairy kingdom could actually be friends, like she thought in the beginning with Stefan.
At the beginning I was amazed and excited, and then it turned a little bit romantic so that felt weird, then I felt sad for the fairy creatures because the humans were trying to take over their land, instead of being friends. I think that the funniest character was the crow guy, Diaval. He was really cool, and cared for Aurora and played with her a lot. The fairies were really funny too, and I liked how Maleficent messed with them.
Overall, I think Maleficent was more of a hero than a villain! The movie was magical and not as scary as I thought it would be. I loved how it told a totally different story than the original movie. I would give it this movie 9 out of 10 stars!
Making my best “fierce girl” face, hahaha!
